Using Your iPhone Sim On The Android Dev Phone

Posted by Dallas on December 14, 2008
Android, iPhone

If you have AT&T (with say an iPhone) and get the Android Dev Phone, you can use your iPhone’s Sim with the G1 as it is both hardware and software unlocked.

When you insert your Sim and then start up the Dev Phone for the first time you will come to the first page of the setup.

Click on the Menu button and click Add APN.

Now enter in the following information:

Name: att
APN: wap.cingular
Password: CINGULAR1

Leave all the other fields blank.

Now click on Menu again and choose Save.

That should be it! You can now use your Android with your AT&T account.

Have you had any problems with AT&T by doing this? I have read rumors suggesting they may deactivate accounts where iPhone SIMs are used in non-iPhone devices… just curious if rumors are just rumors in this case. Thanks!

I personally have not heard that, and I have not had any problem with AT&T. However, I have not had a ton of time to play with it since I posted this. I have been busy with my wonderful iPhone still :-)

I’m curious if you have had any problems from AT&T since your last posting on this?

I actually decided I didn’t like Android v1 and add that with my passionate hatred of Java and it was enough for me to decide to pass on Android development, so I sold my Android Dev Phone.

I never had any trouble from AT&T for the time(s) I did use my SIM in the Android Dev Phone.
